COBMEX® Recognizes Three Emerging Designers Through Expanded Scholarship Program at George Brown Polytechnic

Toronto, ON – COBMEX®, a global leader in uniform knitwear, has announced the recipients of its 2025-2026 Scholarship Program at George Brown Polytechnic’s School of Fashion. Now in its second year, the program has grown from two awards to three, recognizing emerging designers across innovation, sustainability, and excellence in uniform apparel.

The program was developed in close collaboration with George Brown’s School of Fashion and invites students to submit essays examining how uniform design must evolve to meet performance demands, sustainability expectations, and the real-world needs of the people who wear these garments every day.

For COBMEX®, the initiative reflects a long-held conviction that the strength of the uniform industry depends on the quality of the talent entering it. As Jon Edberg, President of COBMEX®, put it: “Uniform design is a specialized discipline and investing in the next generation of talent is how an industry stays relevant. Supporting programs like this is how we strengthen the industry long-term. The students coming through George Brown’s program are serious, skilled, and exactly the kind of designers this industry needs.”

This year’s recipients bring that point to life. Adenike Komolafe, who transitioned from a career in law to pursue fashion, received the COBMEX® Excellence in Uniform Apparel Scholarship for a rigorous, research-backed essay arguing that ergonomics, smart textiles, sustainability, and durability must be treated not as separate design considerations, but as a connected system.

Ginikachi Marvis Ibe, recipient of the COBMEX® Innovation in Uniform Design Scholarship, draws on her upbringing in Nigeria and her goal of bringing African creativity to a global stage. Her essay makes the case that innovation in uniform design begins with listening to the people who wear these garments every day.

Anastasiia Fedorchuk, recipient of the COBMEX® Sustainability in Uniform Apparel Scholarship, came to Canada at 15, carrying with her a passion for fashion shaped by her mother, a shoe designer, who taught her to see clothing as both an art form and a means of expression. Her essay reflects that foundation, framing sustainable design as an act of care for the environment, for the workers who produce the garments, and for the wearers who depend on them. Her ambition is to build a brand that puts those values at its center.

The collaboration between COBMEX® and George Brown reflects a shared commitment to connecting industry and education, ensuring emerging designers are supported with both academic training and real-world perspective. Ana Rita Morais, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Creative Industries and Culinary Arts at George Brown Polytechnic, described the partnership this way: “COBMEX®’s continued commitment to George Brown students reflects the strength of collaboration between industry and post-secondary education in supporting the next generation of designers. Through this partnership, we are able to recognize and support students whose talent, innovation, and potential will help shape the future of the uniform apparel industry.”

That impact is felt directly by the students who receive these awards.
