HLAC Discount for Members

Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC) announced a special rate for Universal Unilink member laundries using HLAC’s inspection process toward accreditation. The special rate is a deduction of $1,000 in inspection fees.

HLAC is a nonprofit organization that inspects and accredits laundries based on the highest, professionally recognized standards for patient safety and infection prevention. Just as healthcare and laundry industries are process driven, HLAC Standards are process driven. HLAC accreditation gives a laundry a genuine advantage over its competitors. Accreditation enables a laundry to inform its healthcare clients that it shares their patient safety goals, that it has raised the bar on how a laundry should process healthcare textiles, that the client can have confidence in the laundry’s highest of standards, and that the laundry’s practices are the industry’s best and most current available. More and more, accreditation is becoming a requirement by healthcare facilities to be considered a laundry vendor. For information contact Executive Director Regina A. 15 Years in Business 15years

Congratulations to Bob Carpenter and Tim Andrews of New Service Concepts in Zanesville, Ohio as they celebrate their 15th year in business. Their operation includes dust control with mats and restroom supplies, uniforms and both hospitality and healthcare linen. To mark the milestone achievement, the company sent customers a commemorative tin of potato chips to customers.

Self Cleaning Fabric

Researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, have developed a inexpensive and efficient new way to grow special nanostructures—which can degrade organic matter when exposed to light—directly onto textiles.

When the nanostructures are exposed to light, they receive an energy boost that creates “hot electrons”. These “hot electrons” release a burst of energy that enables the nanostructures to degrade organic matter.

Dr Rajesh Ramanathan said “Our next step will be to test our nano-enhanced textiles with organic compounds that could be more relevant to consumers, to see how quickly they can handle common stains like tomato sauce or wine.”
