Will Google Ignore Your Website?
By the time you read this, Google may already be ignoring your web site. On April 21st, Google started to include “mobile-friendliness” as a factor in determining what web sites will show up when users initiate a search from a mobile device.
What that means in “normal people” English is this: If your website does not look good on a cell phone screen, Google is not going to send mobile searchers to it. This makes perfect sense for Google. They want all of their users to have a great experience and be able to use the content that Google finds for them.
You may be thinking, “Why would I care about mobile users?” In the past you could get away with ignoring web-surfers on cell phones. But not today. In 2014 the number of mobile searches surpassed the number a desktop computer searches and the disparity will continue to increase as more consumers adopt mobile technology—even grandma has a smart phone now.
People aren’t just checking the weather or their email. They are doing research on-the-go as they move through their busy day because their mobile device is always with them. Performing a search for goods or services has become as simple as speaking a request to their phone.
