I had the pleasure of attending the 2015 Clean Show in Atlanta last month. It was a great time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. I say “friends” because the investment of time in another person and their business goes beyond monetary gain. I care deeply about our Members and want them to grow and prosper. It makes me proud to introduce Preferred Suppliers to new customers as I know all parties involved will be better for the relationship.
In this issue I am reminded that relationships are the cornerstone upon which we build. Member Billy Wagg reports that many of his employees have been with his company for years and at least one has worked side-by-side with three generations of the Wagg family. That loyalty is the result of an investment that pays great dividends for the customers and the business.
Member Mary Anne Wassel relates that in a time of internet-lowball-price competition, deep relationships with employees and customers have helped her business grow. She also mentions that joining Universal Unilink was initially a financial decision-she needed help getting competitive pricing and we delivered. But she has also found that there is a great benefit to getting to know other Members, learning from their experiences, and sharing hers as well.
I hope you take some time to read their stories. And I hope you also consider joining us in September on the beautiful Isle of Palms, South Carolina, site of the 2015 Business Development Conference. Yes, it is a beautiful spot that I am sure you will enjoy visiting. But amidst the gorgeous scenery you will find opportunity to meet business owners just like you that have weathered the difficulties of running a successful business and want to share their story. Who knows? After swapping strategies and experiences you may discover that you have gained some insight and perhaps, even a friend.
Just because you are an independent doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. Together we grow.
